We may be taking pictures every day with our mobile phones, but how many of us know the different style types of photography that we can do on our phones? Understanding the different styles or genres of photography is key for developing and improving our knowledge in it.
Here are 10 style type you may apply to your Mobile-graphy:
1) Food photography:
Let's face it, nobody wants to lug around a heavy camera (and a whole bunch of lenses) all day in order to be able to indulge in great food photography. The good news is that smartphone cameras these days can now take stunning pictures, and you don't need a great deal of technical knowledge to pull it off.

Since mobile phone cameras don't come with the function such as tilt-shift lens (yet), it's sometimes easier to shoot vertically in order to get flat elevational shots of tall buildings and with so much more editing apps, we can do wonders with our photos taken.
4) Portrait photography:
Be it selfie, wefie or concept portraits of yourself or others. Thanks to the addition of cameras to our mobile devices taking photos has become easier than ever. No longer are we forced to struggle through heavy and bulky cameras nor spending on expensive equipments to get good photos. With a simple click of a button from our mobile phone, we now can get really impressive and like-able photos. .
If you don't want to photograph human beings, but nature and landscapes instead, the panorama mode is available in most mobile phones. Nonetheless, a single shot click is good enough in general nature shots!
6) Abstract photography:
Discover the art of abstract photography, creating amazingg, unique & artistic images with your Mobile phone. Rather than “transcribing” a scene in front of you into picture form, abstract photography is all about your representation of the forms and colors around you. ... Taking abstract photos helps you to see things in an entire different way and getting you really close to the subject.
Still life photography is a genre of photography used for the depiction of inanimate subject matter, typically a small group of objects or single piece of object. It is the application of photography to the still life artistic style. Food photography can be considered as Still Life photography too in some ways.
8) Panorama photography:
Panoramic photography is a technique of photography, in the past it used specialized equipment or software to captures images with horizontally elongated fields of view. It is sometimes known as wide format photography. However, with very fast growing technology we no longer need to carry bulky equipments to get it down. Few simple clicks on your mobile phone gives you the same result you would ever wanted.
9) Toy photography:
Enhancing your imaginations with Toy Photography! Put your toys around in real life and see how you can place your composition and tell a story in a different perspective. Some toys go travelling around with their owners, and it's pretty trendy; Travelling Toy Photography.
I call this Travelling Feet photography. Not really sure if anyone of your do this too. I take photos of anything nice I see on the ground, it may be patterns, colours, lights or even stray cats sitting beside me. Play with composition, and get some creative feet shots with your mobile phone!
Tips for Mobile-graphy!
Know your gear
knowing your gear and understanding the technical aspects of how to create an image with it are necessary skills. Although it's just a mobile phone. Do you know what other function your camera have? Try it out to know what you can do in the near future.
Know your app
To help you with better and final photo, it oftens needs to be enhanced. Many smartphone's app these days are very powerful, such as VSCO photo app. Understanding what your app can do for you is an important process of photo-taking on your mobile phone.
Get the right exposure
The main challenge for mobile phone photography is when photographing at night especially when the exposure is very much dim. During the day, you can just walk around without worrying about camera shake or not enough light. Knowing the light, as well as getting the right exposure for your photos is a priority.
Composition is (still king)
Symmetry, leading lines, colors, textures, and all of the other standard composition techniques still apply for mobile phone photography. And remember it's not always about what you include in the image, sometimes it's what you leave out! Hide all flaws!
Sometimes (crop it)
In many image editing app, the cropping tool comes with pre-defined scales to help you accurately crop your images. Same as above, crop all the flaws out of your photo.
Lens accessories
Some external lenses for mobile phones can do more for us. Eg. I love to use wide angel lens as it widen what my phone's camera can see.
Look up too (not just eye level)
Look around you, there may be beautiful subjects around however not at the eye-level. Explore with your eyes!
